Request for Proposals: Academic Equipment Funding
College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP)
Total Allotment Available: $50,000
The College of Health Sciences and Professions invites academic departments to submit proposals for equipment purchases (new or replacement) that directly support instructional and academic mission priorities. Proposals will be competitively reviewed, and selected requests will be funded from the college鈥檚 annual academic equipment allocation.
Eligibility
All academic departments within CHSP are eligible to apply. Collaborative proposals that serve multiple programs or courses are encouraged.
Proposal Requirements
Please limit proposals to 3 pages and include the following information:
Program/Department Information
- Name of department/s
- Contact person (name, title, email)
Description of Equipment Requested
- Name and description of equipment
- Vendor
- Estimated lifespan of equipment
- Any associated installation or setup needs
Justification and Academic Impact
- How the equipment supports the academic mission of the department
- Relevance to key accreditation requirements (if applicable)
- Specific course(s) and learning outcomes supported by the equipment
- Description of current equipment serving this purpose and its status (e.g., outdated, broken, insufficient quantity)
Student Engagement
- Estimated number of students who will use this equipment per year
- Whether the equipment supports undergraduate, graduate, or both populations
- Any anticipated increase in student learning, engagement, or satisfaction
Budget and Sustainability
- Detailed budget including cost of equipment, shipping, installation, and any accessories
- The maximum allowable request is $25,000 per department.
- Collaborative proposals that involve two or more units (e.g., shared equipment across departments or programs) may request up to $50,000, provided the proposal clearly outlines the shared use, benefit to each unit, and coordinated implementation plan.
- Any ongoing maintenance costs and how they will be covered
- Plan for secure storage, use, and maintenance
- Detailed budget including cost of equipment, shipping, installation, and any accessories
Additional Considerations (Optional)
- Shared use across multiple programs or disciplines
- Innovative or high-impact teaching applications
- Use in simulation, AR/VR, or interprofessional education
- Potential to support research training or community outreach activities
Review Criteria
- Alignment with instructional and accreditation needs
- Number of students impacted
- Quality of justification and evidence of need
- Feasibility and sustainability of the request
- Cost-effectiveness and availability of funds
Submission Instructions
- Proposals should be submitted as a single PDF to simonj1@ohio.edu
- Deadline for submission: September 30, 2025
- Awards will be announced by October 14, 2025
- Equipment purchases must be completed by June 30, 2026
